MuteBand.

Privacy policy

Draft for legal review. Items in [brackets] will be completed before launch.

Effective date: [DATE]

This policy explains what personal data is processed when you use the MuteBand app and the muteband.app website, and why. MuteBand is made by [SELLER NAME], [ADDRESS], Türkiye ("we", "us"). Contact: [SUPPORT EMAIL].

The short version

  • Your audio never leaves your computer. MuteBand separates and plays the music locally on your graphics card. We do not receive, record or store what you listen to.
  • The app connects to the internet only to activate and check your license and to check for updates.
  • No advertising, no tracking cookies, no selling of data.

1. Data processed by the app

License activation and checks. When you activate MuteBand, and afterwards when the app starts, it sends to our licensing provider Polar (Polar Software, Inc., USA):

  • your license key,
  • the name of your computer (shown in your customer portal so you can tell your computers apart),
  • an anonymous device identifier (a one-way hash; it cannot be turned back into your hardware ID),
  • the operating system name and the app name.

Polar returns the status of your license and the billing country of the purchase. Purpose: to verify that the license is valid, to enforce the number of computers included in your license and the regions where MuteBand is sold. Legal basis: performance of the contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b); KVKK Art. 5(2)(c)).

Update check. Once a day the app requests a small file from muteband.app to see whether a newer version exists. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address to our hosting provider (Cloudflare). We do not store it in a way that identifies you. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the software up to date.

Local files. Settings and a diagnostic log are stored only on your computer (%APPDATA%\MuteBand). They are not sent anywhere automatically.

Diagnostic report (optional). "Help > Report a problem" creates a text file on your desktop with system information (Windows version, processor, memory, graphics card), the app status, your settings (without the license key) and the end of the log, which may include the names of your audio devices. It is only sent to us if you choose to attach it to an e-mail.

Microsoft DirectML. On Windows, MuteBand uses Microsoft DirectML to run on your graphics card. According to Microsoft's license terms, this component may send usage data to Microsoft. Microsoft is responsible for that processing under its own privacy statement.

2. Purchases

Purchases are processed by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record (the seller of record that handles payment, invoices and taxes). Polar collects your name, e-mail address, billing address and payment details under its own privacy policy (see polar.sh). We receive from Polar the order details we need to provide your license and support (e-mail address, product, billing country, order status).

3. Website

muteband.app is hosted on Cloudflare. We do not use cookies, analytics trackers or advertising tools. Cloudflare processes technical data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. The "Buy" button uses your approximate country (from your IP address) only to show whether MuteBand can be sold in your region.

4. Support e-mails

If you contact us, we use your e-mail and the information you send to answer you. We keep support correspondence for up to [24 months] unless the law requires longer.

5. International transfers

Polar and Cloudflare are based in or operate from the United States. Transfers take place under the safeguards those providers offer (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) and, for Turkish law, Article 9 of the KVKK.

6. How long we keep data

License and order data: as long as your license exists and as required by tax and commercial law. Support correspondence: see section 4. Logs on your computer: you can delete them at any time.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (GDPR in the EU/EEA, KVKK in Türkiye), you can ask for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, restriction of or objection to processing, and data portability. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority (in Türkiye: the Personal Data Protection Authority, KVKK). Write to [SUPPORT EMAIL]. To remove a computer from your license, use "License > Remove from this computer" in the app.

8. Children

MuteBand is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. The current version and its effective date are always on this page.
